Limited Edition of 2009
We were lucky enough through the twisting of a few arms, to score a handful of these gorgeous wind-up steamships, that Märklin re-popped from their 1910 production. The original product number on this ship was Nr. 5064. (Märklin goes back into their Museum each year, and replicates a large tinplate piece, as a spiff for their full line dealers, and we always magically pull some strings to get a few, for you collectors). The “Jolanda” is pretty much all hand-made, and quite beautiful, reflecting the style of toy boats of that era. She has a powerful clockwork motor, that you wind with a long key through the stack. The start/stop lever is also in the stack. The anchor may be weighed with a functional windlass; the wheel operates the rudder; the boarding ladder may be removed. The four lifeboats, dangling in their davits, may be removed. The whole ship sits on a wave-painted, metal, display dolly, with casters, so you may roll her around on the shelf, while dusting. Although “Jolanda” is totally hand-made of metal, she floats and operates beautifully in calm water. Expensive as hell, sold out at the factory, worth every penny! You too may own a tin ship that’s in the Forbes collection. “Jolanda” measures 85cm, that’s about 32.5” long, with a maximum height of 17.75”. The key is 10” long! She comes complete, in a huge box, complete with instructions and a signed and numbered certificate. Don’t let this get away from you!
